SEPTEMBER BEACH CLEAN
What a cracking day for a beach clean! Blue skies and a bright warm sun greeted 32 volunteers this morning, with 6 new faces, including a very keen 5-year-old!
The beach again saw mainly small items being picked up, lots of little plastics, fishing line, food packaging which included pizza boxes, a pair of glasses and a broken kids fishing net.
The total weight figure being similar to last month, are we seeing the benefit of Canenco picking the beach daily this year?
The slopes were curtailed slightly by the food festival, hopefully they clean their footprint better than they did last time. The areas around the beach huts didn’t disappoint again, discarded broken chairs, used/solid bags of cement along with various bits of broken wood.
Discarded cans and bottles were significantly less then usual, although some evidence of drug use was detected (info passed on).
Beach – 17kg
Slopes – 29kg (bulky items not included)
Once again, thanks to those who turned out today, we also received more enquiries from passers-by as to how they could join next month, with some joining in today.
If all goes to plan, we’ll have some guests next month as we should be joined by a group of local cadets from Kent Police.
The initial gremlins with the new email address look like they’re sorted, everyone seems to be getting their updates and reminders.
The Facebook page is helping, with new volunteers finding out about us online.

Meet on the beach at the bottom of Tankerton Slopes, by the NEW White Lifeguard hut
Do come along and join us – all equipment will be provided.
All collecting gear will be provided by Canterbury
City Council.
